Riverside Equestrian Centre

Helper Program

School Based Apprenticeship

School Based Apprenticeship

At Riverside we promote intuitive learning, and aim to create a  positive atmosphere where people feel confident developing new skills.

We hope to inspire our riders to develop compassion and to be  thoughtful, honest and caring towards not only our horses but to other  riders. We aim to produce not only good riders, but thoughtful,  conscientious and responsible students with initiative and drive. We  create a positive environment where students can forge friendships and  connection with a broader community of like minded people. Aside from  riding lessons, Riverside offers many different opportunities for riders  to gain more experience and knowledge in all aspects of riding and  equestrian life. Our helper program at Riverside is designed not only to  encourage our older riders to develop their skills as riders and  handlers, but to develop personal skills and friendships. Our riders  aged 10 years and older are encouraged to come along and help on any  other day. This can include leading younger riders, helping tack and  untack, groom, clean stables, mixing feeds and feeding horses. We feel  these are vital skills to learn along with riding, for anyone wanting to  possibly own their own horse in the future. Helpers are also encouraged  to ride in our supervised “helper rides”, which gives riders an  opportunity to practice skills learnt in lessons.

Riverside also offers placement positions for school based trainees to  study and obtain a certificate 111 in Sports Coaching. These places are  limited to pupils at Riverside who have shown enthusiasm and a sound  work ethic here in the past. The Cert 111 qualification is recognized  Australia wide which gives graduating students an opportunity to boost  their horse and coaching knowledge, opening doors at both university and  in the Equestrian industry.
